AUGUST 28, 2017

Hello Everyone!

This week was crazy and busy but so fun! Mike, Will, JJ and the boys are doing awesome. Will Rambo is the sweetest old man. We taught him more about temples and family history this week and he has grasped onto it so quickly. He started filling out his family tree so this Wednesday we can put it all onto Family search. Our progressing investigators amaze me. They are so prepared! All of them keep their commitments and they are such examples to me.

We got a referral for a guy this week who wanted a bible. We went by to his grandmas apartment where he is staying to drop it off and had a really cool lesson with him. He is on house arrest and just got out of prison. He is currently waiting to hear if he is going back for 35 years-life. Needless to say everything that is going on in his life has really humbled him. He kept telling us how much he wanted God in his life and that although he couldn't change the things he has done in the past that he wanted to feel the peace that comes from the gospel. Before this last time he was in prison his girlfriend had been learning from missionaries and he would pick up on some of the things the missionaries would teach her and it really helped him these last couple of months. When I first talked to him on the phone I was really judging him but after I met him I felt so guilty for the way I had put labels on him. He is still a child of God and its not our place to judge them. Thanks Mosiah 4.

AHHH I love to see the gospel of Jesus Christ working in peoples lives. You can physically see their appearance change. We heard a talk in church yesterday about the plan of salvation and although I hear it almost every day it still gives me the same peaceful feeling when I think about how much God loves us. My favorite scripture to share this week was in Romans

16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
I know that we are all heirs of God and that one day we will recieve all the blessing that he has instore for us.

I love you all!!

Love,

Sister Nye

8-21-17

I hope everyone is enjoying the solar eclipse. I literally have no idea what is going on... except last week I met a guy(kinda crazy) he told me that he hoped the eclipse was the second coming and that Christ was going to take him and leave us............ so that was fun.

preface: sorry if this email makes no sense. I had to write it quickly.

This was another great week! That man that walked into sacrament meeting is now on date for baptism in September. He is so prepared. Every time we meet with him he blows our minds with his questions and insight. We told him that he could receive the priesthood and he almost had a panic attack because he felt like he wasn't worthy of it. We discussed how perfection and worthiness are different things. No one on this earth is perfect but we can be worthy by following the steps Jesus Christ taught us. After that he felt way better. He was so excited to be able to be baptized and help his wife who has already passed.

We had a stake potluck and and conference this weekend. All the missionaries here sang in the Sunday session. JJ wasn't feeling good so she didn't come but she gave us permission to take the boys(we got them a ride). They really enjoyed it and the only thing they put on their plates at the potluck was dessert so I'm pretty sure their mom is going to kill us when she finds out. Conference was on miracles and how they come by faith. It was a really good reminder that we need to be obedient to have miracles in our lives and in this work. I left feeling pretty humbled and self evaluating what I could do to become a better servant of the Lord. I came to the conclusion that I should probably work on everything... haha.

We are no more a trio. Sister Hay got her new companion on Friday night and its sister Hazen! It so cool to have her back down in El Paso. I'll be able to go on exchanges with her so I'm pumped! Being over two areas that were far apart was a little tricky but is was cool to serve in some of the places I had been to in YSA and I got to see a lot of my friends from there. I went to a wedding and reception for two YSA couples back in January and April and I saw both of them this week and both of them are expecting. It is so weird how quickly everything is changing.

I love you all so much!! I hope you have a great week!!!

August 14, 2017

Hello everyone I love!!!

This week was so good! The first week of the transfer was hit off with a bang!! Last transfer was literally the biggest struggle to find new investigators and it was getting discouraging but Sister Olson and I made goals to find 5 investigators every week and we were determined to reach it! On Saturday we were still at zero news. We had a pretty hectic week but we knew if we relied on the Lord, prayed and worked hard we would be able to meet our goal. In the matter of an hour we found 4 new investigators and they are really solid. On Sunday we needed to find one more and a random man came into our sacrament meeting and holy molly was he prepared. He told us he has been going around to different churches but he can't seem to find one that is about Heavenly father and Jesus Christ. His wife had passed away 5 months ago and before sacrament he told us he was looking for answers about resurrection because he wants to know his wife will be okay. NOT EVEN KIDDING THE FIRST TALK WAS ABOUT HOW DEATH HAS NO STING!!! Right after sacrament he was so happy. It was like all of his questions had been answered! In gospel principles the teachers turned the time over to us to teach him the restoration and he loved it. We are meeting with him again tomorrow.

As he left he told us the people were so kind and he loved that the focus was on Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ! Miracles are happening down here and it is so cool to witness them! We were able to hit our goal for 5 new investigators and we have the faith to find again this week!

Another miracle JJ and the boys are on date for the 26th of August! At church yesterday she leaned over to AJ (6 year old) and before he put the bread in his mouth she asked him "are you going to change this week to become more like Christ?" he said yes and he popped it in his mouth. It was one of those moments that I knew I was in the right place. Heavenly Father is preparing so many of His Children. JJ has the strongest testimony. I have learned so much from her. She asked us for the gospel principle book last week and when we went by she had already started the first couple chapters and highlighted every page! She is GOLDEN!

I am so grateful for the opportunity to serve! I love my mission! I love my Savior and everything he has and continues to do for me!

I love you all so much!! I hope you have a great week!!!

Love,

Sister Nye

8-7-17

Hello everyone! We got transfer news last Saturday night and Sister Olson and I are staying together for a third transfer here in the 4th Ward. A lot of our zone is getting switched around though so its been a couple crazy days saying goodbye to the missionaries that are leaving. Sister Olson and I are really excited to stay here and keep working.

We got to go up to the temple on Saturday with our youth and two recent converts to do baptisms for the dead. I haven't done proxy baptisms forever so I was really excited + I did family names for the first time in my life! WOOHOO. I love the temple so much. The spirit is so strong there and I felt so much peace knowing that my ancestors were able to receive those ordinances. Yesterday one of the recent convert youth bore his testimony on the temple and it was so simple but really powerful. He talked about the excitement he felt as he got to be apart of this work. I second that... I am so grateful to be on my mission.

Last night we had a stake musical fireside. All 42 missionaries on the east side of El Paso got to come and sing Joseph Smiths First Prayer. We had a really good turn out and holy molly there are so many talented singers down here. A Polynesian  family hosted and conducted the fireside and each one had the prettiest voices.... One of them spoke Hawaiian for a little bit and I may have day dreamed about going on a vacation for a few seconds.

For some reason I was having a really hard time yesterday. I was feeling down and being hard on myself. and I kept praying to feel peace. While sitting in sacrament meeting I opened Doctrine and covenants to one of my favorite scriptures.

In section 6 it says...

34 Therefore, fear not, little flock; do good; let earth and hell combine against you, for if ye are built upon my rock, they cannot prevail.
35 Behold, I do not condemn you; go your ways and sin no more; perform with soberness the work which I have commanded you.
36 Look unto me in every thought; doubt not, fear not.
37 Behold the wounds which pierced my side, and also the prints of the nails in my hands and feet; be faithful, keep my commandments, and ye shall inherit the kingdom of heaven. Amen.
I instantly knew that Heavenly Father had heard my prayer. My attitude took a 180 degree turn and I felt the love of God and my Savior. I know this church is true. Each and every day I gain more and more of an assurance that there is a plan for each of us and that Heavenly father knows what we need. The Savior told us not to fear. He has taken care of everything and all we have to do is try our very best to become like him.

I love you all so much!

Love,

Sister Nye
